Janice Strap

Janice Strap is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University, specializing in Microbiology and Molecular Biology. She earned her PhD from the University of Alberta in 2000 and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Idaho.

Research Focus: Her lab investigates microbial interactions with biomaterials, including:

• Cellulose biosynthesis mechanisms in acetic acid bacteria
• Natural biopolymer-mediated plant-microbe relationships
• Microbial delignification processes for biofuel production
• Biofilm regulation and microbial peptide signaling

Teaching: Coordinates laboratory instruction for undergraduate biology programs and teaches advanced courses including Functional Genomics, Biochemistry, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
