Janette Knowles, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Art and Design Program at Ohio Dominican University, serving as Director of the Wehrle Gallery. She holds a B.A. in Art History and Anthropology of Art from Kent State University, M.A. in Art History, and Ph.D. in Art Education from The Ohio State University.
Her research focuses on the Arts and Crafts Movement’s role in women’s education, 16th-17th century florilegia printing, and sustainable natural dye techniques. She has worked at institutions including The J. Paul Getty Museum and UNESCO’s Plantin-Moretus Museum Archives, studying Dutch East India Company manifests and historic dye processes. She maintains a natural dye garden and conducts workshops on sustainable textile practices.
