Jane Carthey

Jane Carthey is a Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Design within the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice. Her research focuses on healthcare facility design, participatory design methodologies, and climate change adaptation strategies in healthcare infrastructure. She holds a Professional Doctorate in Healthcare Design from QUT (2021) and has contributed to numerous high-impact publications, including the HEAL Report (2021) and studies on biophilic design in post-pandemic hospital spaces.

Her work emphasizes interprofessional collaboration, user group consultation, and evidence-based design principles to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Key projects include investigations into salutogenic architectural approaches, adaptive capacity of hospitals during extreme weather events, and frameworks for measuring safety in healthcare environments. Jane has collaborated with global institutions like the European Health Property Network and contributed to policy initiatives such as the Measurement and Monitoring of Safety Framework (MMSF).
