Jan Niggemeier is a PhD candidate at the Graduate School of East Asian Studies (GEAS), Freie Universität Berlin, researching revitalization of the Japanese labor movement through community unions. His work focuses on organizational strategies and field transformations, supervised by Prof. Verena Blechinger-Talcott.
- Bachelor's in East Asian Politics/Economics (Ruhr-Universität Bochum)
- Master's in Asian Studies (Lunds Universitet) and Japanese Language (Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg/Keio University)
Key research interests include labor activism, environmental movements, and institutionalization of Green politics in East Asia. He conducted field research as a Guest Researcher at Sophia University (2016) and Research Fellow at the German Institute for Japanese Studies (2018).
Presentations include the ISA World Congress of Sociology (2018) and conferences on civil society and transnational labor activism. His publications include conference reports and analyses of post-Fukushima anti-nuclear protests.
