Jan Kietzmann is a Professor of Innovation and Information Systems at the University of Victoria's Gustavson School of Business. He received his PhD from the London School of Economics (2007) and previously held positions at Simon Fraser University (2007-2018). His research examines the organizational and social implications of emerging technologies.
Research investigates how digital technologies transform business and society. Core interests include social media analytics, artificial intelligence applications, crowdsourcing systems, and digital ethics. His highly cited 2011 paper 'Social media? Get serious!' established foundational frameworks for social media analysis.
Recent publications analyze deepfakes, biometric technologies, NFT ecosystems, and cybersecurity leadership. This work demonstrates consistent focus on ethical dimensions of technological innovation and organizational adaptation strategies.
Teaching includes Technology and the Interconnected Organization (MBA) and Introduction to Management Information Systems (BCom). He integrates emerging technologies into pedagogical approaches and has developed experiential learning frameworks.
