Prof. Dr. Jan Christoph Steckel is a leading scholar in climate and development economics, affiliated with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and serving as a professor at Brandenburg's Technical University in Cottbus. He heads the Climate Policy and Development Working Group at PIK and co-leads the Climate Policy for Development Initiative hosted by EfD.

Current projects include analyzing climate policy impacts in Malawi, health trade-offs of carbon pricing in developing nations, and just transitions in South Africa and Indonesia. He teaches Economic Instruments for Climate Policy and Political Economy of Energy Transitions at BTU Cottbus.
