Jan Behrs is a Visiting Associate Professor at Tulane University's Department of Comparative Literature. He holds a Ph.D. in German Literature from Humboldt University in Berlin, with a dissertation focused on late 19th and early 20th-century modernist literature. His research spans realism, expressionism, Digital Humanities, literary sociology, Goethe studies, post-war Hamburg literary history, and comparative literary studies in Germany and the US.
His teaching emphasizes contemporary literature, German film from silent era to present, and societal topics including migration, pop music, and politics. Previously, he served as DAAD Visiting Associate Professor at Northwestern University and taught at Stuttgart and Kiel universities. He was editor-in-chief of a digital literary encyclopedia for Schleswig-Holstein and worked as a publishing copy editor.
