Jamie Ellis

Jamie Ellis is the Gahan Endowed Professor in the Department of Entomology and Nematology at the University of Florida, specializing in honey bee husbandry, ecology, and conservation. His extension work includes creating the UF Master Beekeeper Program and multiple Bee Colleges. Research examines integrated crop pollination, honey bee health, parasite management, and conservation strategies.

Ellis investigates honey bee responses to environmental stressors including pesticides, pathogens like Nosema ceranae and Varroa destructor, and nutritional challenges. Recent work explores innovative control methods for hive pests, propolis-based therapeutics, and improving pollination efficiency in agricultural systems. The Ellis Laboratory mission focuses on developing sustainable apicultural practices through both basic and applied research.
