James R Murphy

Mr. James R Murphy serves as a Course Director at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), specifically within the School of Systems and Logistics (AFIT/LS) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He has been with AFIT since 2009, supporting graduate and continuing education programs with instructional design, technology consulting, and classroom teaching before becoming Course Director for the Aerospace Cyber Vulnerability Assessment, Mitigation and Protection program in 2018.

His educational background includes:

• 2010: Graduate Certificate in Advanced Geospatial Intelligence from Air Force Institute of Technology
• 1999: Master of Business Administration (Strategic Management) from Ashland University
• 1982: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University

Mr. Murphy specializes in cybersecurity education for aerospace and weapon systems, teaching and managing the Aerospace Cyber Vulnerability Assessment, Mitigation and Protection (ACVAMP) course along with additional systems cybersecurity workshops including Current Topics in Cyber for AF Weapon Systems. He is an active member in Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapon Systems (CROWS) initiatives to build education for the Air Force's cyber workforce.

Prior to his role at AFIT/LS, he served as a Senior Instructor/Instructional Designer in the Air Force Cyberspace Technical Center of Excellence, where he developed precursor workshops including Avionics Cyber Vulnerability Assessment and Mitigation (ACVAM) and Avionics Cyber Hardening and Resiliency Manual (ACHARM).
