James Platt

James Platt is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of City Planning at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Architecture. He currently serves as a Senior Planner with the City of Winnipeg, a role he has held since 2013. Previously, he was Regional Manager of the Province’s Community and Regional Planning office in Portage la Prairie and worked as a GIS application developer for clients across North and South America and Europe.

Education includes an M.C.P. (Master of City Planning) from the University of Manitoba, a diploma in Geographic Information Systems Application Specialist from Sir Sandford Fleming College, a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson Polytechnic University, and a B.A. in Geography from the University of Manitoba.

His research focuses on GIS methodologies for understanding urban environments and their integration into municipal planning and administration. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (RPP, MCIP).
