Miller's research centers on law and economics, game theory, and the economics of future technology. He investigates the technological singularity, the Fermi paradox, and intelligence augmentation, often exploring the economic implications of artificial superintelligence. His work bridges economics with philosophy and computer science, addressing long-term civilizational risks and ethical AI development.
Recent publications (2012-2023) reveal a concentrated focus on AI safety and existential risk, particularly in two 2023 papers questioning whether artificial superintelligence could threaten humanity and proposing preservation strategies. His interdisciplinary approach combines economic theory with futuristic scenarios across astronomy, philosophy, and computer science.
As a public intellectual, Miller hosts the "Future Strategist" podcast and produces educational YouTube content on microeconomics and game theory. He has appeared on Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor and Stossel, is a member of Alcor Life Extension Foundation, and was a candidate for the Massachusetts State Senate.
