About
Professor James MacCabe is a Clinical Professor of Epidemiology and Therapeutics within the Psychosis Studies department at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. He holds roles as an honorary consultant psychiatrist at the National Psychosis Unit and Academic Director of the Psychosis Clinical Academic Group. His research focuses on schizophrenia epidemiology, treatment-resistant psychosis, and personalized medicine, with a strong emphasis on clozapine therapy and biomarker discovery. He has led over 250 publications and 27 research projects, including multi-center trials like CLEAR and GOTHIC2.
Education includes a PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology (King's College London, 2008), MSc in Epidemiology (LSHTM, 2006), and MBBS from the University of London (1995). Awards include the Academic Researcher of the Year 2020 and Best Original Research Paper 2019. He serves on SANE's Board of Trustees and chairs international guidelines (e.g., INTEGRATE).
Research interests span schizophrenia's genetic and neurochemical underpinnings, clozapine's mechanisms, and reducing ethnic disparities in mental health care. Collaborations involve UK and international institutions to advance stratified medicine approaches.
