James Higginbotham

James Higginbotham is Associate Professor of Classics and Associate Curator for the Ancient Collection at Bowdoin College. His research focuses on Greek and Roman colonies, late Roman Republic social history, and excavation methodology.

Field experience includes directing Bowdoin-University of Michigan excavations at Paestum, Italy since 1993, with prior work at sites in Israel and Greece. Publications cover Roman aquacultural engineering and Mediterranean sanctuary archaeology.

Curated the exhibition 'In the Round: Ancient Art from All Sides' exploring multi-perspective engagement with classical sculpture.
