Barbara Burrell is Professor of Classics at the University of Cincinnati, specializing in Roman archaeology with extensive excavation experience across Mediterranean sites including Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Israel.
Her research centers on Roman urbanism, provincial coinage systems, architectural history, and artistic production within the Roman Empire. Current projects include editing the 2024 publication Blackwell's Companion to the Archaeology of the Roman Empire, co-authoring the final report for the Promontory Palace excavation at Caesarea Maritima in Israel, and publishing coin findings from Mount Lykaion in Greece.
She serves as Principal Investigator for the 2025 ASOR Stevan B. Dana Project Grant funding the Caesarea Maritima Final Publication, demonstrating active research leadership in Roman provincial archaeology.
