James Ellis

James Ellis is a Senior Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University, where he has taught since 2012. His roles include leading courses such as BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice (Full Time) and part-time programs like Recovery Management in the Perioperative Environment. Prior to academia, he worked as a Senior Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) in a Thames Valley teaching hospital, specializing in paediatric surgical care and medical simulation education. He holds a BSc (Hons), a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, and is nearing completion of a Master’s in Psychology. Registered with the HCPC as an ODP and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), his expertise spans anaesthetics, post-operative care, anatomy/physiology, resuscitation, and paediatrics.

He has contributed to specialized teams, including a nationally rare children’s craniofacial surgery unit. His accolades include the prestigious 'Academic/Tutor of the Year' award from the university’s Bucks Stars program. Teaching focuses on perioperative environments and surgical practice, integrating clinical experience with educational innovation.
