About
James Dimmock is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Human Sciences at The University of Western Australia. He has worked as a 50/50 teaching researcher at the University since 2005 after receiving his PhD from the same institution in 2004. With Dr. Ben Jackson, he co-developed and currently co-chairs the 'Psychology of Active, Healthy Living' (PAHL) research group.
His research focuses on using psychology theory to advance understanding of health behavior and develop sustainable health promotion interventions. His work spans across Physical Activity Psychology (100%), Self-Efficacy Psychology (40%), Team Sport Psychology (38%), Physical Education Psychology (34%), Mental Toughness Psychology (33%), and other related domains. As co-chair of the PAHL group, he oversees numerous community health initiatives including the Mummy Buddy Program, Man v Fat soccer, the Growth and Resilience in Teachers program, Better Health, and Sports Challenge Australia.
Professor Dimmock has received over AU$3 million in research funding from agencies including the Australian Research Council, the National Heart Foundation, and the Western Australian Health Promotion Foundation. His recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on health behavior change, sport opportunities for vulnerable populations, and psychological aspects of physical activity.

He teaches courses including Active Leadership, Psychosocial Aspects of Sport, Exercise, and Health, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, and Sport and Recreation Marketing, contributing to the education of future professionals in sport and exercise science.
