About
James Cook is a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick's Physics Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics. His research focuses on magnetohydrodynamic waves in fusion plasmas, particularly compressional Alfvén eigenmodes (CAEs) and their role in fast ion redistribution within tokamaks. Current work involves developing linear eigenmode codes for Hall-MHD in axisymmetric plasmas to model CAE behavior.
His research examines how CAEs contribute to anomalous fast ion diffusion and parasitic absorption of ion cyclotron resonance heating, impacting fusion efficiency. Publications address wave-particle interactions, electron current drive mechanisms, and kinetic simulations of plasma instabilities relevant to ITER and DEMO tokamak programs.
