About
Erwin Verwichte is Associate Professor (Reader) at the University of Warwick's Physics Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics. His research explores magnetohydrodynamic waves in solar and fusion plasmas.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Open University
- Physics Degree, Catholic University of Leuven
Research combines theoretical MHD modeling with multi-instrument solar observations. Work includes wave-based coronal seismology, solar loop oscillations, and Alfvén wave dynamics. Recent publications analyze oscillation patterns in prominence eruptions and automated detection of coronal features. Verwichte leads projects on wave energy transport and plasma instabilities across solar atmospheric layers.
Teaching covers electromagnetism and plasma waves. His group develops image-analysis techniques for SDO/AIA, IRIS, and Hinode data. Current PhD projects investigate chromospheric wave dynamics and coronal bright points.
