James B. Speta is the Elizabeth Froehling Horner Professor of Law at Northwestern University's Pritzker School of Law, where he has served since 1999. He has held significant leadership roles including Interim Dean (2020-2021), Vice Dean, and Senior Associate Dean for International Initiatives. Currently, he serves as Co-President of the Law Schools Global League, a consortium of 32 globally-oriented law schools.

Speta's research focuses on telecommunications and Internet policy, antitrust, administrative law, and market organization. A pioneer in net neutrality scholarship, he authored among the first legal academic articles on the subject and has extended his research to platform markets and the metaverse. His work critically examines regulatory challenges in converging technological landscapes and rapidly evolving markets.
His scholarly output reveals consistent engagement with regulatory frameworks across telecommunications, Internet governance, and competition policy. Speta teaches across the law curriculum including Administrative Law, Antitrust, Telecommunications and Internet Policy, and Torts.
