Jakki Colwill

Jakki Colwill is a Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences specializing in Cardiac Physiology at the University of Sunderland. She combines over 30 years of NHS clinical experience as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist and Service Manager with academic roles. Her teaching focuses on BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science – Cardiac Physiology and Biomedical Science programs, where she leads modules like HCS109, HCS110, HCS233, and HCS338. She maintains active clinical practice through regular cardiac ultrasound sessions in NHS settings.

Her research interests include Cardiology diagnostics (ECG/echocardiography), heart disease, valve disease, and patient-centered care pathways. She collaborates with the University’s Sport Physiology team on studies assessing exercise interventions’ impact on cardiac and respiratory parameters. Jakki holds professional accreditations in Cardiac Ultrasound (BSE) and is affiliated with organizations like the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST) and British Society of Echocardiography (BSE). She actively supervises student research projects and supports clinical placements as a placement link tutor.
