About
Professor Jake Shortt is a leading academic in haematology, serving as Head of Haematology Research at Monash University's School of Clinical Sciences and Clinical Director of Monash Health Haematology. He specializes in translational research focusing on epigenetic drugs combined with immunotherapy for haematological cancers, particularly lymphoma and multiple myeloma. His roles include Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials for T-cell lymphoma and myeloid malignancies, and leadership in initiatives like the Monash Health Research Strategy Committee.
His research spans clinical trials, drug development (e.g., luspatercept, asciminib), and molecular oncology with a focus on MYC-driven cancers. He holds honorary positions at the University of Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Awards include the NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship and multiple research prizes. Key collaborations involve institutions globally, with projects addressing MDS, CML, and immunotherapeutic strategies.
Recent work emphasizes combination therapies, genomic approaches in diagnosis (e.g., RNA fusion panels), and addressing treatment resistance in cancers like AML and T-cell lymphoma. His lab, Blood Cancer Therapeutics at Monash Health Translation Precinct, bridges bench-to-bedside innovation.
