Jake Reed

Jake Reed is an Instructor in the Department of Geosciences at Missippi State University, specializing in meteorology. He holds a B.S. in Geosciences (Broadcast Meteorology concentration) from MSU (2012) and an M.S. in Geography from the University of Alabama (2019).

Reed’s research focuses on weather communication and public perception of meteorological hazards, particularly how individuals interpret weather graphics and warnings. He bridges meteorology with social science to enhance weather messaging effectiveness.

His recent publications analyze modifications to the Storm Prediction Center’s Convective Outlook scale, weather icon semiotics, and extended forecast graphics. These works highlight his emphasis on visual communication and risk comprehension.
