Jacob Sparks

Jacob Sparks is an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at California Polytechnic State University. He serves as the Ethics Bowl Coordinator and contributes to research in applied ethics, metaethics, and emerging sciences.

• Educated with a Ph.D. in Applied Philosophy from Bowling Green State University, an M.A. in Philosophy from Bowling Green State University, and a B.S. in Physics and Political Science from Tufts University.

His professional interests focus on the Ethics of AI, Privacy Ethics, and Business Ethics, alongside metaethical inquiries into Moral Epistemology and Moral Semantics. His work often addresses the intersection of technology, morality, and societal implications.

Recent publications explore topics such as moral perception, the logic of 'is' and 'ought' in ethical frameworks, and the philosophical dimensions of medical billing. These articles reflect his engagement with both theoretical and practical ethics, particularly in technology and healthcare contexts.

Jacob is affiliated with Cal Poly's Between the Species journal and the Ethics + Emerging Sciences Group. He coordinates ethics competitions and teaches courses including Ethics, Science and Technology, History of Ethics, and Business Ethics.
