Jack Tannous is an Associate Professor of History and Hellenic Studies at Princeton University, where he chairs the Center for the Study of Late Antiquity and directs the Program in Hellenic Studies. His expertise centers on the cultural and religious history of the eastern Mediterranean during Late Antiquity and the early medieval period, with emphasis on Syriac Christian communities. Education includes a PhD from Princeton, MPhil from Oxford, and BA from UT Austin.
Research explores Syriac manuscript traditions, Christian-Muslim interactions, and identity formation. Recent scholarly output includes analyses of Syriac legal systems under Islamic rule and linguistic-cultural interfaces in Byzantine contexts.
