Jack Shepherd

Jack Shepherd is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism Studies at Mid Sweden University's Department of Economics, Geography, Law and Tourism (EJT). His research focuses on the intersection of tourism and peacebuilding, particularly in conflict zones like Israel/Palestine, and post-conflict reconciliation processes in France and the United States.

Shepherd’s work examines tourism’s dual role as both a 'peace industry' and contributor to systems of oppression. He advocates for creative qualitative methods and emotive research approaches. Recent projects include analyzing the Eurovision Song Contest's impact on tourism and co-founding Pilgrim for Peace, an initiative promoting dialogue through walking.

His publications span topics like oppression offsetting in tourism, cross-border cooperation, and transformative hostel networks in contested spaces. Shepherd teaches courses on sustainable tourism, cultural tourism, and qualitative methods.
