Dr. J van de Kamp is an Associate Professor in Church History at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), based in the Faculty of Religion and Theology. He serves as Director of the Research Center Puritanism and Piety (ReCePP). His research focuses on Early Modern European theology, spirituality, and the circulation of devotional writings, with a particular emphasis on Reformation history and confessionalization.
He holds a PhD in Theology from VU (2011) and has received prestigious grants including the Excellence Initiative grant (2013) and EU Horizon 2020 funding. Notable awards include the Olevian Award for his dissertation (2021). He supervises PhD students and has authored/co-authored over 98 publications, including key works on religious networks and Bremen's Reformation.
He is editor of Studies in Puritanism and Piety and book review editor for Church History and Religious Culture. His ancillary roles include serving as director of Stichting Studie der Nadere Reformatie and a researcher at Theologische Universiteit Apeldoorn.
