About
Isil Erdinc is Professor and Chairholder in Social Policies within the Department of Social and Labor Sciences at the Free University of Brussels' Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, affiliated with the METICES Research Center (Migrations, Spaces, Work, Institutions, Citizenship, Epistemology, Health) since October 2021.
She earned her doctorate in political science from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and maintains an associate membership with the Center for Turkish, Ottoman, Balkan and Central Asian Studies at EHESS.
Her research critically examines labor movements under political constraint, with core interests in the sociology of labor, social movements, political regimes, and contemporary Turkish political sociology. This work analyzes how trade unions navigate semi-authoritarian governance and emergency states, revealing systemic tensions between labor organization and state power.
Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on Turkish labor politics under AKP rule, particularly examining union discrimination mechanisms and emergency-state impacts on worker mobilization. These studies establish connections between Mediterranean labor dynamics and broader patterns of political repression in transitional democracies.
Her institutional engagement with METICES centers on interdisciplinary analysis of work institutions within migration and citizenship frameworks, emphasizing health and epistemological dimensions of social policy.
