About
Isabella Clarke is a Research Fellow and Post-Award Member at Balliol College, University of Oxford. Her doctoral research focuses on the translation of emotion, particularly romantic love, in medieval Tristan texts. She examines how these emotions are spatially experienced and determined through comparative analysis of Anglo-Norman, Old Norse, and Middle High German versions of the Tristan tradition.
Her research interests span Old Norse, Old and Middle English, and Middle High German literatures, alongside the history of emotions, medieval translation practices, and affective devotion. Supervised by Professors Carolyne Larrington and Annette Volfing, her work bridges philological analysis with interdisciplinary exploration of emotional spaces in medieval narratives.
