Dr. Isabella Alcañiz is a Professor in the Department of Government and Politics and Associate Dean of Graduate Education at the University of Maryland's College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. She holds leadership roles including Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center and Co-Chair of the Anti-Black Racism BSOS Initiative. Her research focuses on climate inequality, gender politics, and Latin American politics, with a regional emphasis on Latin America and Latinx communities in the U.S.

Dr. Alcañiz oversees graduate education, DEI initiatives, and collaborates with the Environment and Society Foundation. She serves on the College Park Restorative Justice Commission and coordinates the Politics and Policy Concentration in UMD's Environmental Science program.
