Isaac Cohen

Isaac Cohen is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (APLA) at Auburn University, part of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC). Joining the faculty in fall 2022, Cohen brings nearly two decades of professional experience in designing parks and urban public spaces, community engagement, and research on public space equity.

Research Interests: Cohen's research critically examines the intersection of landscape architecture practice with the social, cultural, economic, and ecological dimensions of public space. He investigates questions of equity, community representation, and historical context in the design and use of parks and urban spaces, challenging conventional notions of "public" and advocating for inclusive design processes. His work analyzes systemic inequities in public space access through projects like "Race and the Control of Public Parks," which examined Dallas' park system in relation to residential racial segregation.

Scientific Awards:

• ASLA Honor Award for faculty research (2024)

Advising and Grants: Committed to experiential learning, Cohen co-developed a Tiger Giving Day project that secured over $11,000 to fund student field trips across Alabama for landscape architecture students. He teaches design studios and electives emphasizing community-based projects, and was recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in 2024 for his scholarly contributions.
