Scott Emmelkamp

Scott Emmelkamp is a Lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis's Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. With over 30 years of professional experience, he specializes in urban design, greenway development, and parks planning across Missouri, Illinois, and international projects. He currently leads the Planning Design Studio, a St. Louis-based landscape architecture firm.

Education: BSLA from the University of Arkansas's Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design (1987, valedictorian). Licensed in AR, IL, and MO; LEED Accredited Professional.

Research interests focus on sustainable infrastructure, adaptive reuse of historic parks, and community-oriented public space design. His recent work emphasizes greenway networks and park master planning in eastern Missouri and southern Illinois.

Award-winning projects include the Vision 2030 Reinvestment in St. Louis County Parks (2019 ASLA Honor Award). Leadership roles include President of St. Louis Chapter ASLA, Trustee positions, and President of Open Space STL conservation nonprofit.

Professional service includes advisory roles at Sam Fox School and Fay Jones School. Notable presentations address motion-centric park design and historic park repurposing strategies.
