About
Irina Grigorieva is a Professor of Physics at the University of Manchester, leading the Condensed Matter Physics group. Her work focuses on experimental studies of electronic and magnetic properties of layered and two-dimensional materials, including graphene and van der Waals heterostructures.
- PhD in Condensed Matter Physics (1989) at the Institute of Solid State Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences
- Postdoctoral positions in UK, Belgium, Netherlands
Her research spans unconventional superconductivity, nontrivial topology, atomically thin superconductors, and ion intercalation in 2D materials. She has been a Highly Cited Researcher in physics since 2017.
Recent publications highlight her work on:
- Superconductivity in PdBi2
- Spin transport in graphene-nanowire hybrids
- Proton dynamics in double-gated graphene
- Lithium intercalation in bilayer graphene
- Oblique spin injection geometries
Scientific Awards:
- David Tabor Medal and Prize (2019), Institute of Physics
Irina directs two EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training:
- Graphene NOWNANO (since 2014)
- 2D Materials of Tomorrow (2DMoT), launching 2025
