Inga Römer

Inga Römer is a Professor of Philosophy with a focus on Hermeneutics and Phenomenology at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg since 2023. Previously, she held the Professorship for German-language Philosophy at the University of Grenoble-Alpes (2016–2023) and was a research associate/academic councilor at the University of Wuppertal (2008–2015), with visiting professorships in Göttingen, Würzburg, and at the Sorbonne. She is Vice President of the German Society for Phenomenological Research and co-editor of Phänomenologische Forschungen (Meiner Verlag) and the Zu den Sachen Selbst book series (Klostermann), and joined the Kant Society board in 2024.

• Education: Doctorate (2008) and Habilitation (2015) in Philosophy from the University of Wuppertal; studied Philosophy, Modern German Literature, Anthropology, and Economics at the University of Hamburg and Université Michel de Montaigne-Bordeaux III (1997–2004).

Research Interests span metaphysics, ethics, subjectivity and intersubjectivity, time, with a historical emphasis on Hermeneutics, Phenomenology, and Classical German Philosophy, particularly Kant. Her work bridges Kantian ethics with phenomenological approaches, exploring topics like temporal consciousness, ethical obligation, and the intersection of practical philosophy with metaphysics.

Publications include monographs such as The Thought of Time in Husserl, Heidegger, and Ricoeur (2010), Das Begehren der reinen praktischen Vernunft (2018), and Kant et la métaphysique pour l'homme (2024). She has contributed to journals on themes like Husserl's ethics, Kant-Heidegger-Levinas dialogues, and metaphysical realism.
