Ilana Feld, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Elmhurst University. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Rice University and an M.S. from Purdue University, with a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology. At Elmhurst, she teaches Language Disorders in Adults and Voice Disorders, and supervises graduate clinicians at the on-campus Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic.
Her research and clinical expertise focus on improving functional outcomes for adults with neurogenic communication disorders. Key areas include aphasia (notably Primary Progressive Aphasia), Traumatic Brain Injury rehabilitation, and treatment strategies for Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (Long COVID). She specializes in augmentative communication using high/low-tech assistive devices and has pioneered protocols for cognitive-linguistic deficits in degenerative conditions like ALS and Huntington’s Disease.
Prior to Elmhurst, Ms. Feld accrued extensive clinical experience at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago), where she worked for nearly a decade in Day Rehabilitation programs and the Intensive Chicago Aphasia Program. She later contributed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s outpatient clinic, developing novel Long COVID assessment frameworks presented at the Tennessee Speech and Hearing Association Convention (2021) and Vanderbilt’s Medical Speech Pathology conference (2022). Her interdisciplinary approach integrates collaboration with occupational/physical therapists, neuropsychologists, and rehabilitation specialists.
