Ignacio Sánchez Prado is the Jarvis Thurston and Mona Van Duyn Professor in the Humanities at Washington University in St. Louis, holding appointments in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and the Latin American Studies Program. He directs the Latin American Studies undergraduate program and holds a courtesy appointment in Film and Media Studies. With a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh, his research focuses on Mexican literary and film studies, neoliberal culture, and world literature theory.
His scholarly works include Screening Neoliberalism and Strategic Occidentalism, earning the LASA Mexico Book Award. He has authored seven books and edited several collections, including Mexican Literature as World Literature. Awards include the 2015 Distinguished Teaching Award from the School of Arts and Sciences.
He teaches courses on Mexican literature, film, and cultural theory, and has contributed to media outlets like the Washington Post and BBC. Currently, he serves on the MLA Executive Council and editorial boards of journals like PMLA. His recent research explores 'Popular Cosmopolitanism' in mid-20th century Mexican culture.
