Ignacio Aguilo

Ignacio Aguilo is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Latin American Cultural Studies at The University of Manchester, serving as Co-Director of the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and affiliated with the Centre for Digital Humanities, Cultures and Media. His research focuses on racial capitalism and cultural production in Latin America, particularly in the Southern Cone and Andean regions, examining intersections between race, class, and social justice through literature, visual arts, music, and digital culture.

• Current Projects: Principal Investigator of the AHRC-funded 'Indigenous Youth Subcultures and New Media in Latin America' (£250,000) and collaborator on the Fondecyt project 'Disaster Writing and the Pink Tide in Latin America.'
• Previous Projects: Co-Investigator on the £1 million AHRC-funded 'Cultures of Anti-Racism in Latin America' (CARLA), producing an online exhibition, documentary, and co-edited book.

Teaching responsibilities include modules such as 'The Latin American Short Story' and 'Culture and Cold War in Latin America.' External roles include serving as External Examiner for Spanish and Latin American Studies at the University of Cambridge (2023-2026). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to reducing inequalities and promoting peaceful societies.
