Dr Ibtihal Ramadan is a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's Education Equity Initiative (EEI), joining in June 2023. Previously, she held roles as Lecturer at Swansea University's Department of Education and Childhood Studies, Post-Graduate Tutor at the University of Glasgow, and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. She holds a PhD in Education from the University of Edinburgh and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
Her research focuses on social policy, EDI practices in higher education, Islamophobia, race, and decolonial scholarship. Methodologically, she employs Critical Race Theory and postcolonial perspectives. She contributed to the Ad-HE project on tackling racism in Scottish universities and is a member of the ARC Professional Network (Scotland).
Dr Ramadan has extensive teaching experience across undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, including curriculum design and supervision of MSc students. Her work emphasizes anti-racist pedagogy and institutional equity.
