Ian Zook is a Professor of Horn at James Madison University's School of Music since 2009. He performs with faculty ensembles Madison Brass and Montpelier Winds, and has extensive orchestral experience with groups like the Philadelphia Orchestra and symphonies across the US. As a soloist, he has performed at the Kennedy Center and with ensembles including the Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra.
Education includes degrees from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the University of Michigan, with additional training at festivals such as Verbier, Aspen, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria.
Zook's career includes performances under renowned conductors like Valery Gergiev and Michael Tilson Thomas. He has presented solo recitals and lectures at institutions including Penn State, University of Michigan, and UNC-Chapel Hill, and participates in workshops like the International Horn Symposium.
His teaching focuses on horn performance and instrumental pedagogy, with a career spanning orchestral, solo, and academic roles in music.
