Ian Roberts is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Connecticut. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and specializes in syntactic theory, comparative syntax, and historical syntax. His research has been supported by a European Research Council Advanced Grant for the project 'Rethinking Comparative Syntax.'
He has published six monographs, two textbooks, and edited several collections. Roberts served as Joint Editor of the Journal of Linguistics (1994–1998) and held leadership roles in major linguistic organizations, including president of Generative Linguistics of the Old World (GLOW, 1993–2001) and president of the Societas Linguistica Europaea (2012–2013). He is an Ordinary Fellow of the British Academy (since 2007), a Member of the Academia Europaea (since 2008), and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bucharest in 2013.
