Ian B. Gibson

Ian B. Gibson is a Lab Safety Officer, Lab Manager, and Lab Instructor in the Department of Natural Sciences at the University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB), where he has worked since 2014. He teaches laboratory courses in biology and chemistry, including Biological Principles I/II, Human Anatomy and Physiology I, Ecology and Evolution Lab, and General Chemistry I/II.

His research interests include genomic rearrangements, genome evolution, and science policy, stemming from his thesis work on high-throughput genetics and genomics at Baylor College of Medicine. He also engages in non-academic interests such as sprint cycling, strength training, exercise physiology, astronomy, philosophy, and literature.

At USCB, Gibson oversees laboratory safety, manages resources, and contributes to the academic infrastructure of the Natural Sciences department. His expertise bridges technical instruction in biology and chemistry with broader scientific policy considerations.
