Dr. ILIESCU GHEORGHIU CATALINA ANCA is a Full Professor in the Department of Translation and Interpretation at the University of Alicante since 2003. She holds a PhD in English Philology (2002, cum laude, unanimous) and a double bachelor's degree in Hispanic and English Philology from the University of Bucharest (1989). A certified translator and conference interpreter with 30 years of experience, she has served as a diplomatic interpreter for Spanish political figures including Presidents Zapatero and Rajoy. She leads the INCOGNITO research group (focused on interculturality, cognition, interpretation, and communication) and is a member of IULMA and IPA since their inception.
Her research emphasizes intercultural mediation, translation technologies, and language policy. She has coordinated major projects such as the European MINORITIES INTEGRATION (2002-2005) and Romania's TRAUTOROM (world's first RO-ES translator). She directs cultural integration initiatives like IDENTIFEMINA and produces migration-related documentaries. As a literary translator, she has published 26 books, including Vaso Roto (awarded EU Creative Europe funding).
Professional roles include editorial board member for MonTI (top SJR quartile), coordinator of Romania's ACLro language tests, and president of cultural association ARIPI. She has delivered plenaries at the European Parliament and led six international conferences. Her 80+ scientific publications span translation studies, cognition, and policy advocacy.
