About
Hydar Ali is a Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Mentorship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. His research focuses on mast cell biology, particularly the roles of MRGPRX2 and Fc-epsilonRI receptors in host defense, allergic diseases, and chronic inflammation.
- PhD, University College London, 1986
- Postdoctoral Fellow, NIH, 1986-1989
- Research Associate, NIH, 1989-1991
His work bridges immunology, pharmacology, and molecular biology to investigate:
- Mechanisms of MRGPRX2 activation by antimicrobial peptides and drugs
- Regulation of Fc-epsilonRI signaling by GRK2 and β-arrestin2
- Development of humanized mouse models for allergic reactions
- Role of Rab proteins in secretory granule biogenesis
Recent publications highlight advancements in MRGPRX2/B2 antagonists, spatiotemporal receptor dynamics, and GRK2 inhibitors for modulating mast cell responses. His lab actively mentors undergraduate, dental, and graduate researchers.
Scientific awards include:
- Associate Editor, Journal of Immunology, 2005-
- Co-Chair, American Heart Association Study Section, 2007-2008
- Member, NIH Innate Immunity Study Section, 2009-2013
