Husain Aziz is Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Kansas State University, leading the Transportation Infrastructure and Systems (TIS) research lab. His research focuses on modeling, simulation, and optimization of traffic flows in smart cities, shared mobility, and resilient transportation systems. He co-leads the transportation infrastructure theme of the NSF-funded ARISE project focused on adaptive and resilient infrastructures driven by social equity.
Aziz's current research projects include: Kansas NSF EPSCoR ARISE initiative on post-disaster recovery routing with equity considerations; Kansas Department of Transportation project on wireless charging for electric vehicles and connected vehicle applications; FHWA Pooled Fund project developing decision tools for Autonomous Truck Mounted Attenuator technologies. His lab also investigates emerging mobility issues including curbside management and micromobility impacts.
Prior to joining K-State, Aziz was an R&D scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (2014-2019). He serves as associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems. He holds memberships in ASCE, ITE, and IEEE.
