About
Hugo Meijer serves as a CNRS Research Fellow and Deputy Director at the Centre for International Research (CERI) within Sciences Po Paris, while also founding and directing the European Initiative for Security Studies (EISS), a pan-European academic network advancing security research collaboration across the continent.
His research investigates the dual human capacities for intergroup conflict and cooperation through an interdisciplinary lens, synthesizing insights from biology, primatology, anthropology, archaeology, genetics, neuroscience, criminology, and social psychology. This work culminates in his forthcoming monograph Janus-faced: The Origins of War and Peace in the Human Species (Cambridge University Press), which examines the evolutionary emergence of war-peace duality in Homo sapiens through biological, cultural, and environmental factors.
As EISS director, Meijer coordinates European scholarly networks in security studies, facilitating cross-institutional research initiatives and academic dialogue on contemporary security challenges while maintaining active engagement through invited lectures at institutions like Collège de France.
