Hubert Locher

Professor Hubert Locher directs the German Documentation Center for Art History and holds the Chair of History and Theory of Visual Media at Philipps University Marburg. His research spans art historical methodology, digital image archives, and visual culture studies.

Leadership: As Director of the Bildarchiv Foto Marburg, Europe's largest art historical image archive, he oversees digitization initiatives and computational approaches to visual cultural heritage.

Research Focus: History of art historiography, photography as documentary evidence, and digital transformations in humanities scholarship. Current projects examine epistemological frameworks for visual media analysis.
