Prof. Dr. Andreas Bienert serves as an Honorary Professor for Aesthetics in the Department of CITY | BUILDING | CULTURE at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, where he has taught in the Arts Management and Cultural Work programme since 1997. He concurrently holds the position of Head of Digital Collections and Documentation at the General Directorate of the National Museums in Berlin – Prussian Cultural Heritage.
His academic foundation includes studies in art history, literature, and linguistics at Philipps-Universität Marburg and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, culminating in a 1992 doctorate on "Prison as a carrier of meaning. Studies on the history of penal architecture" with archival research conducted in Venice, Florence, and Rome.
Prof. Bienert's research integrates Art History with Digital Humanities methodologies, specializing in digital editions, image processing, and 3D modelling. His work examines cultural techniques and medial change within Media Theory, alongside innovative documentation practices for Museum 4.0 environments. This interdisciplinary approach bridges historical scholarship with contemporary digital transformation in cultural heritage.
He co-founded the EVA-Berlin conference (Electronic Media and Visual Arts) in 1996 and has chaired it since 2003 while co-editing its annual proceedings. His professional trajectory includes project management at Kunstmuseum Basel (1992-1993), digital catalogue development for Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt (1989-1992), and contributions to the Marburg Index project (1987-1989).
