Dr Howard Jones is a Professor of Finance at Saïd Business School and a Fellow and Lecturer in Linguistics at Keble College, University of Oxford. He holds a PhD from the University of London and an undergraduate degree from Oxford. His dual roles span academia and finance, with research in both fields.
Research Interests:
- Linguistics: Verbal categories (tense, aspect, voice, mood), early Germanic languages, and linguistic aspects of Martin Luther's work.
- Finance: IPO conflicts of interest, investment advice, and market reactions to gendered speech patterns.
Teaching:
- Linguistics: Historical Linguistics, Germanic Philology, and Linguistic Theory.
- Finance: Business Finance (MBA), and modules in the MSc in Law and Finance.
Engagement: Advised the European Commission and UK Financial Conduct Authority. Authored works in financial press (Financial Times, Wall Street Journal).
