About
Hossein Tavazoni-Zadeh is a Lecturer and final-year PhD candidate in Film Studies at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on Cultural Memory Studies, exploring how media and fiction shape collective memories of architectural spaces, particularly Iranian early modern and vernacular architecture. He holds an MA in Film Studies from Sooreh University (Iran) and a BSc in Civil Engineering (Azad University, Iran), with a concentration in domestic architecture.
As a theatremaker, he has created award-winning site-based performances such as The Elephant (winner of the Best Play Award at the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival) and Parallel Drops. His teaching spans Cultural Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies, and Film and Audiovisual Media Studies, with roles in course coordination and thesis supervision since 2023.
Key research contributions include presentations at the European Conference of Iranian Studies (2023), Memory Studies Association (2023), and IAMHIST Annual Conference (2023). His creative work bridges performance art, documentary practices, and architectural critique, often addressing themes of migration, belonging, and urban nostalgia.
