Horst-Michael Groß

Prof. Horst-Michael Groß is a full-time Professor at Technische Universität Ilmenau, leading the Neuroinformatics and Cognitive Robotics Lab within the Faculty of Computer Science and Automation. His roles include Chair of the lab since 1993, former Dean (2005–2010), and Vice Dean (1998–1997). He coordinates major research initiatives, including Carl-Zeiss Foundation projects on smart manufacturing and EU-funded robotics in industrial scenarios.

Research focuses on neuro-inspired systems, cognitive robotics, and AI-driven assistance robots for healthcare, retail, and industrial applications. He pioneered the TOOMAS shopping guide robot and led the DFG Postgraduate School 164 on VLSI design automation.
