Honorary Professor Henrietta Marrie (née Fourmile) is a Yidinji elder and prominent advocate for Indigenous cultural heritage and intellectual property rights. She holds positions at The University of Queensland, including with the ARC Training Centre for Uniquely Australian Foods and as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining. Her academic journey includes a Master of Environmental and Local Government Law (Macquarie University, 1999), Graduate Diploma in Aboriginal Studies (University of South Australia, 1990), and a teaching diploma (South Australian College of Advanced Education, 1987).
Her research focuses on Indigenous rights, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and institutional racism. Notable contributions include over 60 publications on traditional ecological knowledge, repatriation of cultural property, and Indigenous tourism. Awards include the Order of Australia (AM, 2018), Queensland Greats (2018), and the University of South Australia Alumni Award (2023).
Marrie’s work extends to policy advocacy, including addressing institutional racism in healthcare and leading global initiatives on Indigenous rights. She has collaborated with the UN on biodiversity frameworks and contributed to repatriation efforts through her activism and academic roles.
